Page Description Diagrams
|
»What a Page Description Diagram attempts to do is tell the story (Ah, storytelling, on of my favorite topics of late) of the page, and lay out its design goals—without actually showing the form of the page—thus allowing for the creativity of the designer. A wireframe can still be created, informed by the information contained in the Page Description Diagram, but at this point it’s closer to the design.«

Nupedia vs. Wikipedia
|

Business-centred design
|
Guuui.com: "The user-centred design approach has been taken on from the field of software development to the field of web development. But software applications and web sites are not similar. Thinking of web site visitors as users misses the point, that most web sites have a strategic objective to meet. Balancing users' needs and strategic objectives requires us to move beyond the boundaries of user-centred design."

Three Lessons From Tufte: Special Deliverable #6
|
"Tufte measures the amount of ink used to represent data against the total amount of ink used in the drawing. If data-ink is high, the author has done a good job using “their ink to convey measured quantities” (Display 93). With a low ratio, the graphic has less of what Tufte calls “non-erasable” ink.
Information architects who focus on classification and structuring information might have no use for this principle. Those who stray into the realms of interface design might consider a digital equivalent..." (via bogieland)

Jesse James Garrett spricht über »Informationsarchitektur« als Disziplin und »Information Architect« als Rolle: "Information architecture is a discipline that can be practiced by people in a wide variety of roles. Architectures can be designed to achieve a wide variety of goals, not just information retrieval. The single most important factor in the success of an architecture is the skill of its creator. This skill is applied through a combination of experienced professional judgment, thoughtful consideration of research findings, and disciplined creativity. This skill can be developed and applied by specialists and non-specialists alike." (via cognitivearchitects)

Innovation Architecture
|
Peter Morville: "For the past decade, most of us have practiced classical information architecture. Our centralized teams and top-down methods have been aimed at the creation of stable structures. As we embrace the lessons of complex adaptive systems, we must explore the territory of post-modern innovation architecture, using bottom-up methods to incubate online ecologies and economies that exhibit the capacity to learn and evolve over time."
